Happy Easter

Good Afternoon,

Happy Easter! It has been a busy week, and there is more coming up this weekend. RenVilla, MOM, and PV will be hosting Easter Egg hunts outdoors. RenVilla and PV stuffed Easter Eggs, MOM decorated Easter Eggs Bags for the kids, and there have been many treats and goodies made. It has been quite fun. We are looking forward to summer again and planning events, entertainment, and some more fun activities. If anyone wants to assist with events, please let me know.

Renville Health Services is facing unprecedented, record-level workforce shortages similar to assisted living and nursing homes across Minnesota. The alarming data below shows how deeply workforce shortages in our industry have impacted access to safe, quality care when and where seniors need it.

  • There are 23,000 unfilled positions in these senior care settings.
  • In August, we experienced 1.5 times more resignations than hires
  • Nearly 70% of nursing homes are limiting admissions due to lack of staff to care for additional residents and of that, 25% have stopped admitting new residents completely.

Shortages of staff are impacting access to care across the continuum. The hold on LTC admissions is now creating backups in hospitals that impact the delivery of health care for everyone. Hospitals are unable to discharge patients to appropriate post-acute or long-term care settings. This in turn, impacts family caregivers and their ability to return to their own jobs.

We need your help so that lawmakers understand that we cannot wait for workforce solutions. Contact your legislators today and ask them to ensure that funding for permanent wage increases for senior caregivers are included as a priority in the upcoming special legislative special session. The date of the special session has not yet been announced, but legislative leaders are in active negotiations to determine the priorities to address, and it may only be a matter of weeks before lawmakers return. Don’t wait; we need action now!

10.8.21 COVID Update – Positive Employee at PV

Good Afternoon –

Prairie View:

During surveillance testing yesterday, an employee at PV tested positive with no symptoms. We are waiting on a confirmatory PCR while the employee is in quarantine at home. After thorough contact tracing was completed, it was determined that no residents had high risk exposure. The contact tracing results support not initiating wide spread testing. Due to not having the need for wide spread testing, PV will not need to postpone visitation. Visitation will continue as normal. Surveillance testing will continue.

COVID-19 Guidance: Long-term Care Indoor Visitation for Nursing Facilities and Assisted Living-type Settings (state.mn.us)

RenVilla and Meadows:

No new positives. Surveillance testing will continue. No change.

Other Covid Information:

According to MDH, the latest weekly report shows 405 schools in Minnesota have reported COVID outbreaks so far. That data from the state Department of Health shows school outbreaks have more than quadrupled in the past few weeks. Over half of the schools that have experienced more than five coronavirus cases are in greater Minnesota. Health officials continue to encourage mask-wearing, hand sanitizing, and vaccinations for eligible people in order to limit the spread of COVID-19.
